The Human Library SGF is a licensed partner of the Human Library Project out of Copenhagen,

Springfield, Missouri had the privilege and honor in becoming part of this global project.
THE CONCEPT
The Human Library creates a safe space for dialogue where topics are discussed openly between 2 people: our human “books” and their “readers”. The human book will tell their life story as it pertains to the topic. The reader will get to ask questions and open up dialogue to learn more about the topic. All questions are encouraged, but we ask that you return your book how you found them. Be kind, but be curious.
OUR BOOKS
All books will go through online training from the Denmark office to prepare themselves to become a book. All books are volunteers willing to share personal experience regarding their book topic. Books are ready to answer difficult questions and appreciate them.
EMPATHY
Face to face conversations are the first way to break down your own bias. The barriers to knowledge of a topic are removed in the reading process. Each human experience is unique, and you may find you learn something new about a topic you already know about.
DIVERSITY
Often we think diversity means race, but diversity ranges in meaning from trauma, neurological issues, faith, ideology, mental health, social status, and much more. Human Library SGF will showcase the diversity our population within its books.
